Hot Dot Coms

Browsing the Web for new sites that make a Mom's life easier or more fun.

MomJunction.com

An online community where mothering is something you all have in common. Create groups and invite your friends to join - think of it as MySpace for Moms. Post photos, calendars and share blog-style journals to connect with other parents. Create groups about food, single motherhood, infertility, family life or anything else that is a part of your life.. No fees. Try the“marketplace” where you can buy/sell Mom-tested stuff.

Cozi.com

A lifeline to families with lives out of synch. This online calendar and organizer is made for the modern busy family with shoppings lists, color-coded schedules for each family member and more. It includes a text messaging service and is easily managed remotely by your cell phone. Dig this! You can call Cozi from your mobile and have them read your shopping list or appointments,OR they will send them to you as a text message. Brilliant!

Can You Hear Me Now?

You've got the iPod or the Nano but do you have the latest in earphones to go with it? Known as "hearwear" by those in the know. Think of the new line of V-Moda earphones as a fashion accessory not a techno-hifi necessity.

In last month's Tech Savvy Mom column, I talked about Sentry Software and it's online monitoring software. With the idea of keeping your kids safe. Always on the lookout, I recently found this product. A concerned father has developed a GPS shoe that can track anyone anywhere. The wearer presses a button on the shoe and it starts sending a signal. Or in the case of a missing child the GPS can be remotedly activated. But this isn't for tracking your errant teen, or making sure your husband REALLY is working late - the cost of activation includes a monitoring fee and law enforcement fees and could result in hefty fines. Expect them in the stores by June with a child's version following shortly thereafter. But use at your own risk!

If you saw Will Smith in the Pursuit of Happyness master the 80's famed Rubik's Cube in minutes, and thought.. I can do that! Stand by for the next revolution...Rubiks Revolution the 21st Century cube. It features lights, sounds and voice effects to create six games with multi-level challenges. It won't hit the shelves until summer for $ 19.99.

But looking at this new-fangled cube with lights and sounds, sorta made me miss the simple genius of the original cube.

So I found an addictive alternative ... the Online Cube. Now I can't get enough. And no, I haven't solved it yet!

GorillaPod by Joby

You gotta love this thing!

My inner techno-geek went crazy for this contraption. It takes the "I can't geta good angle for this photo" mentality and throws it out the window. Forget about normal tripods, this crazy thing can attach your camera anywhere at any height. Get the shot you want.

Available for $49.95
