Charlotte Parent magazine, in partnership with ImaginOn, is proud to present this year's 2008-09 Young Authors Book Writing Contest and Reception. Young Authors Contest Details Submission Deadline - November 5, 2008

Who Can Enter:  

All children - grades K-8 - residing in any of the following counties: Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Union and York.

Categories:

Kindergarten - Grade 1

Grades 2-3

Grades 4-5

Grades 6-8

Spanish/Bilingual

How to Enter:

Submit a handwritten and illustrated storybook appropriate for a child between the ages of 4 and 8 to any of our drop-off locations listed below or via mail. The book cannot exceed 20 pages in length. Include a title page with book title, author's name, full address, school or home school name and age and a parent or guardian e-mail contact or telephone number. Note: This information will only be used to contact participants with contest information, including a winner notification and reception details.

Rules and Restrictions:

Book not to exceed 20 written pages in length. (Keep in mind the intended audience - a 4-8 year old!) No computer enhanced submissions. No typed text. No computer generated art. Must be received by November 5, 2008 to be eligible. Prizes will be awarded for each winning entry in a category as follows: First Place, Second Place and Third Place. Honorable Mention for Art/Illustration. Joint effort books will be considered (limit: 2 students, a story writer and illustrator); however, if chosen as a winning entry, prize and recognition will be shared.

Reception and Refreshments for All Participants ~ 2:30-3:30pm

Special Appearance by Sir Purr of Carolina Panthers

Kindergarten thru Grade 3 winners book presentation ~ 1-2:30pm

Grades 4-8 and Spanish Language winners book presentation ~ 3:30-5pm
